In memory of Letitia Linke
In 2014, aged 34, Letitia Linke was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Against impossible odds, this young wife and mother of two young boys began her fight against the disease, undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment.
While undergoing this treatment Letitia became passionate about educating women about the signs and symptoms of the disease and raising funds for more research. Coordinated by Letitia and her committee, the first Adelaide Silver Style event, the Cocktail Party held in 2016 set the bar high with an evening of quality food, wine and entertainment — raising $75,000 in support of the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF).
Buoyed by the events success, and while still receiving treatment, Letitia followed up with the successful Frocktober Lunch in 2017. Letitia was a beloved OCRF ambassador, a face of the Witchery ‘White Shirt’ campaign, and was recognised for her efforts raising over $100,000 for the OCRF.
Sadly, Letitia lost her fight in August 2018, leaving behind a legacy that her family and close friends today continue in her honour. Letitia’s deepest wish was that an early detection test would be found so that no other family would have to go through what she and her family went through. The funds raised from the Adelaide Silver Style event will support research by the OCRF toward achieving that goal.
Funds raised will help the OCRF with:
- Developing and implementing an early detection program for ovarian cancer.
- Improving the mortality rate, management and long-term survival of women with ovarian cancer
- Gaining a fundamental understanding of the causes of ovarian cancer.

About the OCRF
The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation is one of Australia’s pre-eminent bodies supporting ovarian cancer research. Their goal is to raise awareness and vital funds for the development of an early detection test that will save women’s lives.
Ovarian cancer is the most common cause of death from a gynaecological cancer in Australia. Worldwide almost a quarter of a million women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year and it is responsible for almost 150,000 deaths annually. Ovarian cancer due to lack of specific early signs is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage when a cure is difficult to achieve.
The main goal of the OCRF is to improve the survival of women affected by ovarian cancer. This will be achieved by development of an early detection program, which is the focus of much of the fundraising activities of the OCRF. Another important task of the OCRF is to raise community awareness of ovarian cancer.
We still don’t have a fundamental understanding of the cause of this disease, an early detection program, or an understanding of how we can improve long-term survival rates. The funds raised by the Adelaide Silver Style Dinner Dance 2019 will go directly towards the OCRF’s research in these critical areas.
